WHS volleyballThe Wayland High School varsity volleyball team opened its season Saturday at the Traverse City Central Invitational and finished in third place.

The Lady Wildcats won four matches, lost once and tied once.

They beat Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes, Benzie, Glen Lake and Traverse City Central but lost in the semifinals to Traverse City St. Francis.

Leading the Wildcats statistically were:
• Taryn Coughlin – 38 kills, 6 aces, 36 digs.
• Leigha Morse – 21 kills, 42 assists, 8 aces, 31 digs.
• Emily Johnson – 10 aces, 46 dig.s
• Chloe Coughlin – 18 kills, 3 blocks.
• Macey Winger – 3 blocks.
• Abby Merice – 58 digs.
