The Wayland girls’ varsity soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with Kenowa Hills Thursday evening in a nonconference match.
All of the scoring occurred in the last eight minutes of the contest.
The Wildcats’ Hannah Hemney scored her first varsity goal with 8 minutes remaining in the game to break the 0-0 tie on a corner kick from Brinley Nieuwenhuis.
“Unfortunately, the Knights tied it back up with just 2 minutes remaining on a nice goal that found the side netting, barely beating Paxton Granger to even the score,” said coach Ben Sleeman.
The tie brings the Wildcat’s record to 2-4-1 (0-1 in the O-K Gold Conference)
The Lady Wildcats go back on the road on Monday to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, as conference play resumes.
