The Wayland girls’ soccer team capturGirls-Soccered its second victory in as many starts Thursday evening with a 4-0 shutout victory over Byron Center.

The Lady Wildcats also defeated Coopersville 4-0 in their season opener. However, they’ll get a stiff test at 6:45 p.m. next Monday when they take on Gull Lake, the defending Class B state champion, on their home field.

Junior Ali Cutler Thursday night scored her first goal of the season just seven minutes into thecontest and was assisted by Ashlyn Schafer. Madelyn Gray followed  with a goal 10 minutes later, with an assist from Brinley Nieuwenhuis. Gray added her second goal of the game in the 33rd minute when she received a nice pass from Haley Thelen and found the back of the net to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Ali Cutler’s second goal of the game was the only score the rest of the evening, as the second half was dominated by strong defensive play.

Hannah Anderson recorded her second straight shutout in goal and had three saves. The Wildcats peppered the Bulldogs’ goalie with 17 shots on goal.
