Tom Miller of Moline, a 1966 graduate of Wayland High School, was honored by the Leighton Township Fire Department for his 28 years of service as a volunteer firefighter.

“After 28 years of service, a proper retirement was due. Tonight we celebrated the years Tom Miller gave to the people of Leighton Township with a plaque, his old helmet/patch, and some cake.,” said Fire Chief Matt Weston.

Miller himself commented on Facebook, “It was an honor serving with the great firefighters of Leighton Township Fire Dept. those 28 years. Retired back in 2006. With all the training from firefighting it helped me with the new job as a Regional Planner at Kalamazoo County Emergency Management, Allegan County Emergency Management and Barry County Emergency Management, from where I retired in 2014.”
