The Leighton Township Board Thursday evening decided to stick with Southwest Michigan Dust Control for applying solutions for roads in June, July and August this year.

Southwest Michigan has done dust control for Leighton over the last several years and Clerk Mary Lou Niewenhuis said, “They continue to do a good job.”

SW Michigan’s bid was for $13,000 for each of the first two applications and $12,000 for the third. Nieuwenhuis said the cost will be slightly lower than last year.

Leighton resident Steve Shoemaker, a frequent guest at Township Board meetings, said the applications “also mitigate some of the holes formed when it rains.”

The board also approved Heyboer’s Landscaping for mowing at the cemeteries and Green Lake Landscaping for lawn care at the township hall, Moline fire station and Green Lake park.

Members also agreed one again to pay the $2,037 cost for one mowing along Leighton roads. Another mowing is done by and paid for by Allegan County.
