Comedian Woody Allen has been quoted as saying, “Eighty percent of life is just showing up.” Officials and engineers with Liquid Haulers Maintenance should have heeded the words.
The Dorr Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening postponed any decision on the company’s request for site plan review for its plans to construct another building at its site on 4560 Division Ave. There didn’t appear to be any objections, except that no one was on hand to speak on the company’s behalf.
“I’m surprised they didn’t at least have their engineers attend,” said Plan Commission Chairman Robert Wagner.
Eric Thompson of Professional Code Inspections did his best to explain the company’s plans, but, as Vice Chairman Robert Traxler said, “It’s not Eric’s job to represent the petitioners.”
Thompson told commissioners one of his colleagues, Lori Castello, had reviewed much of the proposal, and, “Everything appears to be in order and is in compliance with the local ordinance.”
However, someone must appear before the commission at next month’s meeting to respond to any questions, particularly in the area of drainage.
Liquid Haulers Maintenance plans to have a new 29,220-square-foot building 26 feet high constructed in addition to the current structure that has been in place for about 30 years. Thompson said it’s his understanding it would be used for storage of raw materials.
In other business at Tuesday night’s meeting, commissioners:
• Agreed to begin deliberations on reviewing the master plan in January.
• Noted the postponement of any action on rural wedding barns because the State Legislature is in recess for the political campaign season.
“Wagner quipped, “I would assume nothing will happen until the (Nov. 6) election is over.”
The commission postponed action this past summer because of a bill introduced by a legislator that would permit the facilities. No action has been taken on the issue in Lansing.
