Preliminary work has begun on South Main Street in Wayland on the effort to add a left-turn lane. Milling began Thursday and Friday.

Anthony Winters, a local businessman affected more by the project than most, said he talked to some officials from the Michigan Department of Transportation:

“I talked to the lead forman today about the road construction. Just because not much has been shared and I wanted to inform the town that’s happening.  

“The city had a meeting last week Friday to go over the entire plan and what is happening. Main Street is open, but it’s going to be rough.  There will be a time that it is going to be a one way. (Because of the underground work that is going to be happening). The project will start paving the middle of August, and should be completed Sept. 15.   

“All the side street signs that lead to Main st. say “ROAD CLOSED” This is NOT true, they are open to ALL business’s and home traffic. It is advised that you stay off the road as they don’t want through traffic to be on the road, but going to a business or a home is permitted.  

“To be honest this is going to be challenging, but we might have to adapt the business as the road changes.”
