Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Gerke, who has served Dorr and Leighton townships, last Friday received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Lifesavers Award Mt. Pleasant. Out of all the nominees from sheriff’s officers around the state, two deputies were selected.

Deputy Gerke led the Sheriff’s Office for the second year in a row in total number of impaired driving arrests, 38 last year. Pictured are (from left) Sheriff Frank Baker, Gerke, and Sgt. John Paul Damveld.

Wonderful news. Now how about the Wayland police stepping up and writing parking tickets after midnight. To busy or lazy to get out of the car? How about radaring 10th in the a.m. or anytime for that matter. Are they at Jimmy Johns for lunch, supper? How come all the Allegan county sheriffs in town? Do we even have a Wayland Police force? I know we have a chief but what of?
