Local public safety officials busy with crash, pursuit

Area public safety officials were very busy Wednesday after noon because of a serious traffic crash just north of Wayland and the capture of a suspect on the southeast section of the city.

One crash victim had to be air lifted via helicopter near Adams and Bender Roads in Thornapple Township, but further details were not available

A suspect was successfully taken into custody after a pursuit in Wayland. The stop ended at the dead end on Frank Court, where a victim was treated for minor injuries.

The original incident occurred outside of Wayland at the Yankee Spring Meadows Mobile Home Park in Yankee Springs Township, “so we won’t comment further on that,” said Police Chief Mark Garnsey. “Thankfully the chase slowed and came to a stop once the suspect’s tires deflated.

“Rumors of officers being involved in a shooting are incorrect,” he added. “No officers fired weapons. The suspect was safely taken into custody.”
