Residents in the City of Wayland have reported prospective vandals and thieves have been roaming the streets and checking peoples’ mailboxes in the dead of night.

One resident posted on Facebook Sunday morning, “Looks like we had people roaming the streets after dark last night, going through mailboxes on Standish Drive/Anderson, Plum and Wildflower. I picked up and put the mail I found back in the mailboxes, but you might want to look around. Police were notified.”

Another Facebooked poster suggested, “Gather your mail daily helps a lot… Of course it seems lately that the mail can come any time it’s daylight instead of close to a set time. Mine arrives anywhere from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., seems like. a few years ago it came at about the same time every day (except Saturday), at about 2 p.m.”

In bygone days it seems that intruders rifled through residents’ car with unlocked doors, particularly in Dorr and Leighton townships
