Longtime nurse Catherine Schrier dies days before 100th birthday

Catherine Elizabeth S5094265_300x300_1eymoure Schrier (Betty) of Shelbyville died Thursday, Sept. 3. She was only 11 days shy of her 100th birthday.

Born in Graybill, Ind., on Sept. 14, 1915, Betty graduated from Wayland Union High School and Bronson School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked at Allegan General Hospital for 22 years. She was an active member of the Shelbyville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughters Ruth Schrier of Grand Rapids, and Bonnie (Bill) Dutton of Goleta, California, four grandsons; Michael (Christy) Schrier, Matthew Schrier, Robert Dutton, Daniel (Tania) Dutton, four great grandsons and one great-granddaughter of the heart and numerous nephews and nieces.
Family of the heart includes; John and Carolyn Buskirk, Jennie Ammons, Ginger Waldron and Stephen Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents Erick Hasta Seymoure and Georgia Hannen Seymoure, her husband of 68 years, John Robert Schrier, son Richard A. Schrier and one grandson Christopher Dutton.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9  at Shelbyville United Methodist Church, 938 124th Ave. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday from  at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 312 N. Main St., Wayland. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayland at 1:45 p.m.
