The bridge on the M-222 overpass above U.S.-131, the Martin Exit No. 55, is likely to be ready for traffic within the next week to 10 days, Martin Township officials learned Wednesday evening.
The bridge has been closed last winter for reconstruction and resurfacing and Allegan County Road Commission officials promised it would be ready before the annual B-93 Birthday Bash Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, at U.S.-131 Motorsports Park, 1249 12th St., Martin.
Martin Township Supervisor Glenn Leep told his colleagues, “Barring anything unforseen, it should be open sometime next week. They said it was going to be done before Father’s Day.”
He noted railings are up and approaches are paved.
Martin Fire Chief John Schipper said his department’s talks with B-93 and Motorsports Park officials have been going well.
“We don’t have too many problems that we’re working through right now,” he told board members.
More importantly, motorists soon won’t have to use detours off U.S.-131 and will have a straight shot from Martin to Allegan and vice versa along M-222.
Though the bridge will be ready, it is not likely planned resurfacing and widening for 12th Street will be done in time for the Birthday Bash.
