Barry County Sheriff’s authorities have reported they have a man in custody in connection with a fatal shooting at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Orangeville Township near Gun Lake.
The victim was identified as Steven Michael Kauffman, 34, on Wildwood Road near Marsh Road.
Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf said Sigmund Floyd Rumpf, the suspect, was taken into custody after a fatal shooting on Wildwood Road near Marsh Road. Leaf reported it was unclear if the incident occurred as a result of a domestic dispute.
On Wednesday, Rumpf was charged in Allegan County District Court with felony firearm and open murder. His bond was set at $750,000.
