Marine Corps. veteran Margaret Fifelski dies at 77

Margaret Christine “Chris” Fifelski, died Saturday, July 4. She was 77.

Born Sept. 4, 1942, she was the daughter of Melvin and Margaret (Diem) Smith. She served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1960 to 1962 as a switchboard operator. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Duncan Smith and Fran Clark.

Margaret enjoyed baking, cooking, and watching NASCAR and home remodeling shows on TV. She also enjoyed collecting cardinal figurines. In her early years, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and helping on the farm.

She is survived by her son, Burleigh “Buzz” (Robin) Wilson; her four-legged friend, Corkey; grandsons Ryan (Liz) Baughman, Scott (Christie Miller) Wilson, Meghan Wilson, Stephen (Pana Salta) Wilson, Chad Wilson, Douglas Young; great-grandchildren Heidi Baughman, Ryan Baughman, Ryane Baughman, Talia Baughman, Aubrey Wilson, Jace Wilson, Maren Wilson, Rowan Merren, Mia Merren; brother, Melvin Jr. (Terry) Smith; sisters Susan (Thomas) Tucker, Jayne Graham; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; her best friend, Linda Baweja; and her VFW Wayland Post Family.

Per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Margaret and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wayland VFW Post or a charity of one’s choosing.
