Mark Ludwig seeks top Michigan Dem post

Mark Ludwig, community activist and political candidate from Fennville, is one of four candidates to take over the the leadership of the Michigan Democratic Party.

Ludwig, who lost in this year’s election for state representative in the 43rd District, has been rural caucus chairman, a longtime sustainable farmer and has been long associated with the Allegan County Conservation District.

He, former state Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr., who recently lost a bid for the U.S. House; Al “Bj” Williams; and Kevin Tolbert, a former UAW official and current MDP chair of the 12th Congressional District.

The new chair will be tasked with succeeding retiring Lavora Barnes for a two-year term    leading the party through the 2026 elections, which will include races for governor, attorney general and secretary of state – all seats held by term-limited Democrats.
