The Touch-free Auto Wash business on the southeastern side of the Martin exit off U.S-131 has been closed and later this summer the property will be up for auction at the annual Allegan County Delinquent Tax Sale.

Martin Township Supervisor Glenn Leep said he’s fielded plenty of inquiries about buying the building and lot, but it’s his understanding the former owner gave away right of way easement rights. Therefore, it is land locked.

There also is much talk about the neighboring Dover Farms residential development bidding on the building and property to satisfy plans for expansion.

When asked if the township wanted to get on the bidding at the sale, Leep said he and hos board colleagues have no interest in purchasing the business.

In other business at Wednesday evening’s meeting, the Martin Township Board:

• Adopted the 2022-23 budget after holding a Truth in Taxation hearing. The township will levy 1.0603 mills and will gain $22,279 more in tax revenue because of property value increases. The budget is for $1,690,558.

Other levies will be 0.7409 mill for fire equipment and vehicles, 3.952 mills for roads and 0.9910 mill for fire services.

• Learned from Ambulance Board representative Sarah Lynema that Wayland Area Emergency Services has just welcomed two new vehicles, bringing the total to six, three of them front-line.

“I’ve been been excited, waiting and waiting,” she said. I’m so glad they’re here,” but she acknowledged they are not yet road ready.

• Noted that the township has received complaints from local residents about the lack of grass mowing for the cemeteries for Memorial Day activities. Property Revolution, the company handling those chores, will be contacted.
