The Martin boys’ varsity basketball team improved to 5-0 with a 59-39 victory at Saugatuck Friday night.

The Clippers trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter and overtook the host team 24-21 at halftime. Hampering the visiting five was that Saugatuck went to the free throw line 17 times in that first 16 minutes.

But Martin then took control and led 15 by the end of the third quarter and finished the game with a 34-13 run.

Clayton Geerlings scored 16 points, Alex Hardy collected 14 and Collin Coburn finished with 9. Saugatuck was paced by Brad Dunn’s 21 points.

The Clippers will be at Watervliet Thursday for their final encounter before the holiday break.
