The Martin girls’ and boys’ cross country squads competed in the first Southwestern Athletic Conference jamboree this season Wednesday at Fenn Valley Orchards.

The Lady Clippers squad finished eighth of the 15 squads in attendance. Senior Mercedes Morin led Martin with a 20^th place finish among 105 runners with a time of 23:09.22. Sophomore Ellie Young crossed the line in 27^th and senior Zoie Tuinstra finished in 39^th. Recording a couple of personal bests were Samantha Stone (24:56.29) and freshman Elly Blackburn (26:47.89).

The Martin boys’ team fielded just two runners and therefore did not have a team score. Senior Eli Dykstra finished with a personal best 18.49.58, posting a 19^th place finish. Freshman Alex Morin ended in 56^th out of 113 runners.

The Clippers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 22, with a Southwestern Athletic Conference meet at Lawrence.
