The Martin girls’ cross-country team  had a pretty decent day Wednesday at the Parchment Invitational, placing fourth in a 10-team field of mostly larger schools.

The Clipper ladies scored 82 points, just 10 behind third place Kalamazoo Christian. Taking first was Division 2 Marshall had 42 points to win it.

As usual, sophomore Veyda Conley captured third place individually with a five-kilometer time of 20:35.36, as she continues to close in on the coveted below the 20-minute mark, which was achieved Wednesday only by Ava Hathaway of Bronson (19:57.73).

Senior Emily King, as usual, was second for the Clippers with a 16th-place finish and fast-rising frosh Allison Rodgers was 18th. Freshman DuRae Sage was 25th and Sara Schipper checked in 28th.

The Martin boys didn’t have quite as successful outing, as they finished seventh.

As usual, senior Alex Morin led the team individually with an 11th-place finish in 18:56.72. He was followed by sophomore Jadon Dettmann in 28th, sophomore Gary Salvador-Garcia in 46th, sophomore Hunter Hayes 47th and freshman Jeremiah VanHouten 49th.
