Sophomore Veyda Conley did not manage to run a 5K race in less than 20 minutes again, but she still finished third Tuesday in the Wayland Invitational.
Conley crossed the finish line in 21:49.11 and she led her Martin team to a second-place finish in the girls’ competition. Hamilton won it with 34 points and Martin checked in with 52.
The Wildcat boys’ team had a pretty good day, taking second place with 61 points behind Hamilton’s 34.
Following Conley were Sara Schipper in eighth place, DuRae Sage 10th, Emily King 12th and Kayden Jager 28th.
Wayland was led by freshman Abree VanDenBrink in seventh place, Megan Stack 11th, Ashley Larsen 18th and Sarah Osborn 20th, but the Wildcats did not field enough runners to record a team score.
Dylan Pallett again led the Wildcat boys with a time of 17:07.26, Ethan Manning was eighth in 18:47.11, Mason Fein 11th in 19:32.02, Alberto Mandujano 12th in 19:39.09 and Arquimedes Miguel-Garcia in 33rd.
Alex Morin took ninth pace in 19:05.12 for Martin. Jadon Dettmon was 21st, Gary Salvador-Garcia 26th, Jeremiah VanHouten 27th and Hunter Hayes 28th.
