Martin graduate Maurice Simpson dies at age 87

Watson Township native Maurice Simpson died Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Wyoming.

He was born June 20, 1934, in Watson Township, the son of Clarence and Florence (Blair) Simpson. Maurice was a 1953 Martin High School graduate. He worked for Valley Metal and retired from the state bridge crew due to an injury in the early ’70s.

Maurice loved working with his hands and could build anything. He had been an assistant leader with the Boy Scouts of America when his boys were younger.

Surviving are his sons, Harold Simpson and Mark Simpson; grandson, Tim and brother, Roger (Jane) Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his children, Ruth and Larry and six siblings, Betty McDonald, Clayton Simpson, Bob Simpson, Lorraine Henry, Geraldine Blake and John Simpson.

Friends may visit with his family starting at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego Township.
