Martin group wants to put on a winter festival Feb. 28

Village of Martin TowerThe Martin Main Street program plans to have its first-ever Winter Festival from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.

“This will be our first annual festival and we are excited to offer this family friendly event to our community,” said Martin Village Clerk Darcy Doezema, one of the organizers.

The event will be held outside in downtown Martin. If there is inclement weather, it will take place in the Wyatt Center (Brandon Elementary School Gym).

Martin Main Street is offering an invitation to area businesses and organizations to participate in the festival. Any individual or group interested in volunteering time, setting up a table at the event, sponsoring an event, or who would like to donate to the festival may contact the Main Street Program at: mymartin2020@gmail.com or (269) 672-7777 Feb. 2.

“We will be hosting games, so if your students would like to work the event for community service please contact us by the date above,” Doezema added.

Joining Doezema in organizing the festivities are Barb Keyzer and Korene VandenBerg.

Activities under consideration include an ice skating rink, snowman building contest, craft station, hot cocoa station, cookies and treats,  entertainment, including music from the East Martin School, games (a list of suggested games and prizes is being made, but anyone is invited  to come up with their own), a photo booth, a possible euchre/bingo/Tenzi tournament.

“We are encouraging local residents to send in photos and stories of past winter storms,” she said. “There is a possibility of holding a chili cook-off. We are currently looking in to the formalities.”
