Martin Hardware closing its doors after 70 years

Martin Hardware will begin a store closing Monday, Oct. 31, after being in business for 70 years.

The downtown Martin business was founded by former Fire Chief Everett “Gil” Gilson in 1952 and then taken over by Dona and Jodie Gilson in 2014 after his death in an ORV accident in Watson Township.

“Thank you for your friendship and allowing us to serve you for over 70 years.” The Gilsons said in a prepared statement.

On sale starting Monday will be hardware, tools, paint supplies, and some taxidermy and African artifacts by appointment only by calling (269) 672-7017.

The store still is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
