The combined Martin-Climax Scotts wrestling team fell to Bloomingdale in the finals of the Class D district wrestling tournament Wednesday evening.
The United team was seeking its fourth straight district title, but the Cardinals weren’t phased, posting a 52-25 decision over Martin-Climax Scotts.
Bloomingdale advanced to the finals after an easy first round, beating Galesburg-Augusta 71-6. Martin, meanwhile, held on to edge Gobles 36-33.
It was a tough match for the Martin-Climax team, but nevertheless, the team persisted. Up and coming freshman Carsen Young headlined the effort for Martin, winning both his matches. Climax Scotts also racked up points, but the team came short in the end.
Bloomingdale Superintendent Debora Paquette was on hand to award her victorious wrestlers the district trophy. The Cardinals now advance to regional competition against Watervliet at Springport.
The Martin-Climax Scotts team’s dual meet season has ended, but individuals are still eligible to advance in the districts.
