Martin Board of Education Trustee Austin Marsman has announced he is resigning his post effective Dec. 1.

Marsman, a graduate of Martin High School, was elected to the board in 2020 and still has one year left on his four-year term He is the second Martin school board member to resign this year, as Rodney Pillars stepped down the same night he was sworn in.

In a preparewd statement, Marsman said, “It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve on the Martin Public Schools Board of Education. After much consideration, I have informed my board colleagues and district administration that I intend to resign my seat effective Dec. 1.

“I take immense pride in the achievements during my tenure, such as the long-overdue updates to curriculum, including reproductive health for fifth and ninth grades, policy revisions, restructuring of district administration, adoption of a strategic plan, and the passage of a bond extension. I am confident the district can and will continue to chart a positive course as I begin this next chapter.

“I remain grateful to the Martin community for placing their trust in me by allowing me to serve.”

Additionally, he holds the position of chair of the Allegan County Broadband Action Workgroup and serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Youth Education Fund.
