The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department this morning reported it “responded to a report of a possible threat at Martin Public Schools. This threat was taken seriously by both the school and our deputies; appropriate action was taken to ensure the safety of the students and staff at the school. After talking with school officials, It was determined, that there was no credible threat.”

Superintendent David Harnish wrote a letter to school district parents:

Dear Martin Parents and Guardians,

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is a priority at Martin Public Schools. This morning we received information about a possible threat to the safety of our building and students. I want to make sure you have accurate information and dispel any rumors you μ1ay have heard about the incident.

Early this morning, the school was contacted by a parent who reported seeing a threat on social media. This threat was taken seriously, and local law enforcement was called immediately. After a thorough investigation by school administration and local law enforcement. we want to assure you that no serious threat exists.

Safety is a top priority at Martin Public Schools and we want to commend those who spoke up to alert us to this situation. We want to continue to encourage students and parents that if they see or hear concerns of a serious nature that they report it immediately to a staff member.

We plan to operate as normal and feet our students are safe. Thank you for your support in our efforts.
