Voters in the Martin Public School district overwhelmingly agreed to renew an 18-mill property tax levy on businesses and industries in a special election Tuesday.

The tally was 200 to 51, or about an 80 to 20 percent split.

The millage does not apply to any local residential property, unless the owner has more than one residence. The 18 mills does apply to taxes on business and industrial properties.

Also, May 7 was the application deadline for anyone who would be interested in serving a partial term on the Martin Board of Education. Trustee John VandenBerg is resigning. His term expires in December 2020.

The applicant who is appointed will be eligible to seek a full four-year term in the November 2020 election.
