Martin successes on the gridiron keep sailing along

Coach Brad Blauvelt chats with the Clippers after their blowout win at Lawrence.

Is there really much difference between last year’s state championship Martin varsity football squad and the outfit that’s won two blowouts already this season?

Some local fans probably would quote the famous Bobby Knight line that “we don’t rebuild, we reload.”

The Clippers went over, under, around and through Lawrence Friday night in a merry 55-0 romp that was decided by intermission when they were enjoying a 47-0 cushion.

The victory came on the heels of a 62-6 scorcher the week before over Colon. Scores like these were prevalent a year ago and they’ve been the norm ever since Martin switched from 11-man to eight-man football.

Martin is now 2-0 and will resume gridiron play next Friday in its first home contest, against Bridgman. The Bees edged the Clippers 35-34, but were found to have a school population too big to be eligible for the poat-season playoffs. The same held true for NorthPointe Christian, which bested Martin 35-19 in 2022.
