Denise Dykstra Wednesday night resigned her Martin Township Clerk’s position after serving for only six months.

She announced to the Martin Township Board, “Because I no longer live at a Martin Township address, I must resign. My last day will be (Friday) May 19.”

She has agreed, at the Township Board’s request, to help train her successor and be paid by the hour. She is moving to Leighton Township.

Dykstra served for a couple of years as deputy clerk and was elevated in January to clerk when Rachelle Smit was elected state representative from the 43rd District.

Dykstra is a longtime Martin resident who waxed eloquent about her love for the community in her column “Everyday Joys” she wrote for Townbroadcast. She said her youngest of four sons will finish his high school career next year at Martin.

There was no indication that her husband, Jason, has resigned his post as a trustee on the Martin Board of Education, which he was elected to last November.

In other business at Wednesday night’s meeting, the Township Board:

• Examined the proposed 2023-24 fiscal year budget and approved changes. The full budget will be discussed at a workshop at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, before it will be voted on at the June regular meeting.
• Noted the annual community trash pickup day will be Saturday, May 20, beginning at 9 a.m.
• Was told that the township now has $105,069 in its federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
