e-recycling-5-7-16The Martin Township Board Wednesday evening elected to participate in the “E-Recycling” event Saturday, Oct. 22, in Otsego.

The cost for the service is $1500, but it was noted that it’s already included in the $36 per household per year stipend voters approved in the August primary.

The site will be at the building next to the Menasha Building in Otsego. Residents can bring their computers, televisions, flat screens, smart phones and other devices for free and safe disposal. Also collected will be household hazardous waste such as paint, flashlights, batteries, cleaners, pesticides, aerosols, asphalt and roofing tar, fluorescent bulbs, glue, paint thinner, etc.

Township Trustee Jim Brenner expressed concerns that not very many local residents take advantage of the collection day.

But Treasurer Susan Tiemeyer noted that Martin used to be included with the recycling day in Wayland and hit had to be split up because there was a large response.

She added the $1500 already is built in to the township’s recycling budget.

“It’s not extra money we have to come up with out of our (the township’s) pockets,” she said.
