Martin Township is joining with Otsego Township, Gun Plains Township and the Village of Martin in a cooperative effort to cut off potential MIOSHA penalties at the pass.

Gun Plains Township Supervisor Michael VanDenBerg was present at the Wednesday night meeting to help explain the reason for the four municipalities to join pre-emptive safety training sessions. He said the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration very well may be dropping in at local government facilities, and if it finds violations, the costs could be prohibitive.

Local officials said being proactive by signing on to training from Archangel Safety LLC 

could be a huge money saving move.

In other business at the meeting Wednesday night, the Martin Township Board:

• Agreed to pay Mejeur Brothers Construction $6.375 for repairs and renovations at the JC Wheeler Library, including three exterior doors, two interior doors, a meeting room, reading room and rest room.
• Decided to forward to the township attorney a letter from an attorney representing Austin Marsman, seeking compensation of more than $10,000 for accepting solid waste from a citizen.
• Agreed to have Arnsman Septic Service of Hopkins finish a gravel road at East Cemetery to avoid a steep drop-off.
• Estimated that the Allegan County Road Commission will begin the road paving project on 124th Avenue in September.
• Agreed to pay Cyber Solutions $992 for the next year for computer safety services.
• • Welcomed back Supervisor Glenn Leep, who had missed the last two monthly meetings because he was out of the country and he suffered an illness after he returned.
