The Martin Township Board last week adopted a budget of almost $500,000 for fiscal year 2024-25, with a fund balance of just under 12 percent.

The township will levy 1.0493 mills for general operations, 0.987 mill for fire services and 3.9113 mills for roads. All of these around were rolled back by provisions of the Headlee Amendment of 1978.

The board agreed to set annual salaries of local elected officials at $20,263 for township clerk, $22,120 for treasurer, $11,382 for supervisor and $2,445 for trustees.

The board, however, tabled a request for raise for Wheeler Library Director Abbie LaFountain.

In other business at the meeting June 12, Allegan County Commissioner Scott Beltman of Monterey Township told board members about a resolution that permits off-road vehicle traffic on all roads within the township except for U.S.-131 and M-222. He promised that enforcement of speed limits and other rules will be strict.
