Martin lotThe Martin Township Board Wednesday evening voted to offer the Grinage Lot, 1580 10th St., near the heart of the downtown village, for a purchase price of $30,000.

The lot has been appraised at $26,000 and it is 82 feet by 181 feet, or about one-third of an acre in size. It is zoned commercial and local officials have said it might be ideal for a credit union or a bank.

Gary Brinkhius said he would check as much as possible to find such a potential buyer and Allegan County Commissioner Don Black said he’d have the lot’s sale listed with the county.

“That lot has cost us a lot for years and years,” said Supervisor Glenn Leep. “This is a a good time to say good-bye.”

In other business Wednesday night, the board:

• Appointed Don Dekema to a seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals, succeeding the late Bob Kelsey.

• Reappointed Chairman Pete Zeinstra and Secretary Marge Smith to three-year seats on the Planning Commission.

• Adopted an ordinance amendment setting the pay of commissioners on the Gun Lake Area Sewer Authority at $100 per meeting, not to exceed $2,400 a year.

• Was told by Jim Brenner, the board’s representative on the Planning Commission, that a Florida firm has been making inquiries about a wind generation operation and wants to examine the township’s wind turbine ordinance adopted more than five years ago.
