The Martin Township Board agreed to renew mowing services from Cody Visser and Property Revolution, but tabled action on his proposals for work on the East Martin Cemetery expansion.

The board agreed to pay Property Revolution $16,500 for mowing all cemeteries, the township hall and for handling the spring and fall cleanup efforts.

Another bidder, Legacy Lawn Care of Allegan, submitted a lower bid of $13,790.

However, Township Treasurer Sue Tiemeyer said, “I think Cody’s done a good job in the past and he’s local. I’d like to stay with him.”
Visser proposed costs of $14,789.53 for tree removal, brush hogging tall grass at the South Cemetery on 10th Street three times for $360, another brush hog upgrade service for $1,585. All were tabled until next month so Visser and Supervisor Glenn Leep could physically walk the properties.

In other business at Wednesday night’s meeting, which was held via the Internet because of COVID-19, the board:

  • Learned that two volunteers recently resigned from the Martin Fire Department for personal reasons.
  • Agreed to allow the JC Wheeler Library to contract for an Internet summer library program because it’s unknown how long the Coronavirus threat will last.

Alice Kelsey, representing the library, said the $2,280 cost will be absorbed by reallocation of the library’s budget, so the township won’t be on the hook for any bills.

  • Was told by the Allegan County Road Commission that its annual allocation will be used for paving shoulders on Second Street from Marsh Road to 118th Avenue at a cost of $44,915.20.
  • Noted the annual Spring Cleanup Day is scheduled for May 18, if permitted. The condition holds true for a budget workshop May 27 at 6 p.m. at the township hall.
