The Martin Township Board Wednesday evening was notified that the camera system for the township hall and Wheeler Library across the street isn’t working properly.

Alice Kelsey, the Library Board’s representative to the Township Board, told members the camera is running, but not recording activity.

Township officials have decided to look into purchasing the $600 software necessary to work with the cameras and spend $100 on each camera.

The board also approved a request from the Allegan County Sheriff’s office to use a back room at the library for $100 a month, even though the room often is used for library activities.

In other business Wednesday, the Township Board:

  • Fielded a request from Dover Farms on the west side of town for information about where local residents can go for shelter in the event of a tornado warning.
  • Was told by Allegan County Commissioner Gale Dugan that Allegan County reportedly took in a record $47.5 million in revenue in the 2023-24 fiscal year.
  • Accepted the low bid of $26,950 from Wyoming Asphalt to pave the driveway at South Cemetery.
  • Was told by Treasurer Sue Tiemeyer that a township resident who no longer wanted to use a cemetery plot passed it along to a person who was outside of the township. Board members ujppsed the non-resident fee from $100 to $200.
