Budget2_2The Martin Township Board will have a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, on the proposed 2016-17 fiscal year budget.

The proposed budget is expected to be just over $300,000, according to Trustee Jim Brenner.

The Township Board Wednesday evening went over items for budget amendments. Clerk Rachelle Smit said there were slight overages in attorney expenses, for pensions, fire insurance in recycling and elections. She said the attorney expenses were the result of the battles between the board and the CDXX Boutique pot exchange business, there were unanticipated added expenses in elections because of the special 80th District contest for state representative and the new rescue truck caused an increase in fire insurance.

However, Smit reported that the township has saved about $215 because of changing to new and more energy-efficient lighting.

The overage in recycling was only about $170 and officials hope the August millage for an increase in surcharge from $25 to $36 per year will take care of that issue.

The Township Board has scheduled a workshop on the budget for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the township hall.
