Martin’s trash pickup day scheduled for May 20

Martin Township’s annual Trash Pick-up Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20.

The event will take place in the downtown area, and there will be dumpsters provided by CDR, which Wednesday night was awarded by the Township Board the low bid of $2,325 for hauling away up two seven tons of waste.

In other business at Wednesday evening’s meeting, the Township Board:

  • Adopted a resolution supporting 123 Net providing rural high-speed Internet services.
  • Agreed to renew the 30-year contract with Michigan Gas Utilities with a franchise ordinance.
  • Approved a 5% stipend, or $100, for the Gun Lake Buoy safety program, which serves Martin, Orangeville, Yankee Springs and Wayland townships.
  • Learned that 124th Avenue on the line between Wayland and Martin townships east of Shelbyville is in poor shape, but no decisions have been made yet on what do about it.
  • Agreed to check with Sturman’s Plumbing for bathroom issues at the township hall and JC Wheeler Library.
  • Was told by Alice Kelsey that the Friends of the Library paid for costs to fix the sign in front of the library.
