James Patrick Gill, age 77 of Byron Center, died Wednesday, Feb. 7.

He was a huge fan of his grandchildren’s sports and activities. He loved being anywhere with his beloved Bets, from the golf course to the dance floor.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; their children Brian (DeShawn) Gill, Amy Gill, Lanae (Kathleen Morgan) Gill; grandchildren Braeden, Kennedy, Elliot, Quinn; siblings John (Rita) Gill, Evelyn Veenstra, Leonard (Sandy) Gill, Julia London; sisters-in-law Marijo Gill and Susie Gill; mother-in-law, Maxine Schwartz; brothers- and sisters-in-law Bob (Dawn) Schwartz, Diane (Ken) Genther, Dorothy (Bob) VanWagner, Jim (Karen) Schwartz, Mike Schwartz, David (Brenda) Schwartz; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Marie Gill; brothers Bill, Bob, and Don; brothers-in-law August Veenstra and Jerry London; father- and mother-in-law Don and Rita Schwartz.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Monsignors William Duncan and Michael Hazard, 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2024 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 9408 Wilson Ave. SW, Byron Center, with visitation Monday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. The family will receive relatives and friends from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th Ave., Dorr, with a Rosary at 3:30.

Memorial contribution may be made to St. Sebastian Church General Fund or St. Mary’s Visitation Building Fund.
