Allegan County Commissioner Gale Dugan told the Watson Township Board Thursday night that an 0.25-mill request for 10 years for the Allegan County Medical Care Facility indeed will be on the August primary ballot.

Dugan also informed Township Board members that a request for a Headlee Amendment rollback override to restore the county’s 5.7 mill levy from 1965 will appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. The entire package will be for 9.09 mill.

Commissioner Rick Cain told the Martin Township Board Wednesday night there was a good chance the medical care nursing facility millage would be decided in August. He noted the levy would raise $1.2 million and erase a half million dollar deficit. Furthermore, Dugan said, it would pay for infrastructure repairs.

In other business at Thursday night’s meeting, the Watson Township Board:

• Scheduled a public hearing on the fiscal year 2020-21 budget for 7 p.m. Monday, March 24.
• Noted a Planning Commission public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, on a new gravel mining ordinance.
• Was informed that a water flow study recommended by the state for the old dump site will cost $5,500. The township is trying to deal with reports from last fall that a couple of water wells at the site were found to be contaminated by pfas.
• Awarded the mowing bid for a total of $9,700 to MnS Lawn Care of Otsego again. MnS will be responsible for mowing chores at the township hall and Hicks and Miner Cemeteries at the same price as a year ago.
• Welcomed Shaw Coulter as new chairman of the Planning Commission, succeeding the retired Troy Baker. He and commission member Jay Roberts Eveland said they attended a training session, where Eveland was able to learn about the master plan, which called, “awesome” and “a great foundation.” Trustee Chuck Andrysiak agreed, insisting the township’s Zoning Board of Appeals rarely has to meet more than one a year, and that’s for organizational purposes.
• Noted that costs for recycling, the ambulance service and for gravel are “skyrocketing.”
