Memorial for Wayne Cheyne, 80, will be May 21

Way5-5 OBIT Cheynene R. Cheyne, 80, of Shelbyville died Monday, April 25, at home.

He was born Aug 27, 1935, in Byron Center, the son of Russell Cheyne and Janet Steffes.

Wayne was a United States Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific from 1954 to 1958. He was a member of the American Legion Dorr Post 127 for 41 years and a member of the Dorr Moose Lodge 2541 for nine years.

Wayne enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. He worked in many positions throughout his lifetime, retiring after 15 years at West Michigan Auto Auction.

Surviving are his partner in life, Laura Seelye; four children, Kathryn (Troy), Lisa, Richard and Russell (Amber); 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Frank) Sigala and Cynthia (Rick) Brower; lifelong friend Duane Keller of Newaygo; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas DeBoer.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

A memorial will be Saturday, May 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion, 4310 18th St., Dorr.

Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the American Legion Dorr Post 127.
