Memorial mass planned for former Wayland woman

Former longtime Wayland resident Bette M. (Wisniewski) Baker died Saturday, Feb. 26, of natural causes in St. Ignace.

Born Dec. 14, 1923, in Detroit, she was 98 years old.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Henry) Kanar and Sonia (Phil) Hines, daughters, Yvonne Holmberg, Christine (Darryl) Carlson, Stephanie Thompson, Linda (James) Kumler, Lisa (Gary) Bigelow, Susan (Gary) Bush, Kim (Patrick) Gill, and Georgene (Mark) Jackson; as well as 80 additional descendants.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edward V. Wisniewski and George C. Baker; sons-in-law, David Holmberg and Jerry Thompson; and foster family, John and Mildred Gurney.

A memorial mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church in Moran, Mich., on Friday, March 4. Another memorial mass will be offered at St. Therese Parish in Wayland. Date will be announced later. Burial of cremains in Moran.

Memorials may be directed to St. Therese School.
