Dearl Lance, age 81, of Dorr, died Saturday, Aug. 22.

After a long and successful career at GM, Dearl taught computer aided design at Western University until beginning a second career at Steelcase. Dearl and Ruth moved to Texas after his second retirement and continued their sailing hobby. After 18 years, Dearl and Ruth returned to Michigan to be near family, spending their summers in Michigan while still spending winters in Texas, where Dearl golfed and volunteered as a tour guide on the U.S.S. Lexington.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruthmary Lance; children Darren (Lisa) Lance and Steven Lance; granddaughter, Stephanie; great-granddaughter, Frances; mother, Dorothy; brothers Tom (Karen) Lance and Gary (Rene) Lance; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4125 18th St., Dorr, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Winchester Cemetery. Pastor David Rockoff will be officiating.

In honor of Dearl, contributions may be made to Project Hope and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
