Memorial service Tuesday for Hopkins native Rudolph Ellinger

3877164Rudolph H. Ellinger, 96, of Kalamazoo, a native of Hopkins, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo.

Dr. Ellinger was born in Hopkins on Aug. 18, 1920, the son of Waldo and Gertrude (Wechter) Ellinger. He was a Hopkins High School Class of 1936 graduate and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He did his graduate work at Iowa State where he received his PhD in Bio Chemistry.

Rudolph used his knowledge working as a food scientist for many food companies during his career. Outside of work, he loved photography and raising orchids.

Rudolph is survived by his wife, Julia; two children: Debra Ellinger, Steven and Gina Ellinger; a granddaughter, Alison Fournier; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Ellinger and sister, Myrta Lambert.

A memorial service to celebrate Rudolph’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, Pastor Roger Lambert officiating.
