The Wayland varsity softball team Tuesday was swept by Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, 6-3 and 6-0, and for the first time in the last 15 years failed to either win or share the O-K Gold Conference championship.

The Lady Wildcats, who have only one senior on their roster this spring, ended league play with a 9-3 record while TK took the crown with a perfect 12-0 record, 25-4 overall.

Wayland, which was winless last weekend in the Ann Arbor Invitational, is preparing to do battle in the Division 2 district tournament Saturday, June 1, at Hopkins. Middleville plays in the opening round Tuesday against winless Hastings. The other teams are Hopkins, (19-8) Allegan and Wayland.

does anyone wonder why there is only one senior, two juniors on the team ? the numbers keep droping every year, the girls are under a verbal abuse, belitting, negative ( so call coach ) told the team this was the worst team she every had, who would want to play in a negative atomspere everyday. makes the players and parents sign waviers not to complain or lose playing time. open eyes wayland time for a change.
