Area motorists probably are pleased that the road project at the Bradley Exit No. 61 on U.S.-131 is nearly complete, but more road lane closures are on the way.
The Gun Lake Tribe and Gun Lake Casino have announced there will be lane closures starting next week over the next couple of years to northbound U.S. 131 between 124th Avenue (Shelbyville exit) and M-179 (Bradley exit).
Officials from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) report lane closures on the northbound side of the 2.5-mile stretch will begin Monday, March 28.
The most recent construction project is part of a $26 million effort, with 95 percent of the tab picked up by the tribe. The plans are to rebuild the expressway’s interchange with M-179 (129th Avenue) and resurface U.S.-131 between 120th and 133rd avenues that serves traffic to and from the casino.
The on-ramp from 129th Avenue to southbound U.S. 131 remains closed from now through late September.
The two-year project is scheduled to be completed in November if the weather cooperates..
