Preparations are being made for the annual Gun Lake Winterfest, which is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, with most events taking place at the Gun Lake Park at 124th Avenue and Marsh Road.

There is a variety of events planned for the whole day, and already there have been several “Gun Lake Idol” preliminary contests held at area taverns and restaurants in the area.

There will be a Valentine’s Day Team Trivia Contest Tuesday evening, Feb. 14, at the Dorr American Legion on 18th Street north of 142nd Avenue. Women will be presented with a carnation, a scalloped potatoes and ham dinner will be served, cost is $20 each and prizes will be awarded.

Featured events for Saturday, Feb. 18, are:

  • A pancake breakfast will kick off the day from 7 to 10 a.m. at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 159 131st Ave.

A cornhole tournament will start at 10 a.m. under the tent at Yankee Springs State Park, 2104 Briggs Road. Cost is $50 per team, with prizes being paid to the top three teams. For more information you can go to FIERCE CORNHOLE Facebook page.

  • Alan Kazam will be be a guest again this year to entertain on stage at noon and then in the kids’ crafts and game area until 4 p.m. The games are planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the tent.
  • Mary’s Country Critters will be available from noon to 4 p.m.
  • The 5K Fun Run/Walk on a flat course through the park will start at 9 a.m. Feb. 18. The cost is $25, and runners/walkers will receive a T-shirt and participation medal. Register at gunlakewinterfest.com EVENTS. Registration will start at 8:00 am on race day.

• The “Birdie Blizzard” disc golf event, sponsored by Innova Disc Golf, will be offered again, with walk-up registration beginning at 9 a.m. Fee is $5, but cash only. Flex times are 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the top eight competitors will win prizes. Raffle baskets will be there as well. Go to gunlakewinterfest.com under events tab, then Team Trivia!

• The ever-popular Gun Lake Winterfest Polar Dip will take place, ice or no ice. The sign up fee is $25, all dippers will receive a T-shirt. Check In will begin at 2 p.m. You can still register at the event up to dip time. There will be warming and changing tents located at the pavilion.
