A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a traffic crash near 12th Street and Division Avenue in Leighton Township.

Reports from a police scanner indicated the driver crashed after running a stop sign and was not moving on the side of the road. Authorities from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department at first were told by a witness that the motorcyclist was still breathing but in critical condition..

Leighton Township Fire personnel quickly arrived on the sceneto administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation via a machine, but deduced soon afterward the man’s injuries were not survivable.

Authorities do not believe alcohol use or speed were factors.

The road was blocked and traffic rerouted by authorities soon afterward.
