A motorist was apprehended Michigan State Police Saturday morning in a fleeing and attempted carjacking incident on M-222 in Watson Township and on U.S.-131 near the Martin exit.
The suspect crashed his car on the side of the freeway and attempted to carjack another vehicle when police nabbed him.
His name is being withheld until arraignment according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy attempted to pull over the motorist for a traffic violation on M-222 in Watson Township. The driver fled and made a U-turn in a parking lot, crashing his vehicle into the police cruiser and disabling it. The suspect still was able to drive, but he was caught by State Police on the U.S.-131 expressway. The suspect crashed the car into the highway median just north of the Martin exit.
The suspect then ran on to southbound traffic and tried to carjack a vehicle that had stopped on the side of the roadway. Authorities said he forced himself into the driver’s seat, but police and were able to pull him from the vehicle before he could escape.
The mororist was arrested on multiple criminal charges and outstanding warrants.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police, Allegan Police Department, Otsego Police Department and Gun Lake Tribal Police.
