Motorist dies in crash with tree in Martin Township

A 30-year-old motorist died in a crash in a crash on 6th Street near 114th Avenue near Martin Township Saturday evening.

Allegan County Sherriff’s deputies reported the crash occurred at about 5:12 p.m. when they were summoned to the site in which his car had collided with a tree. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was reported to unconscious and trapped inside.

First responders were able to free him and perform life-saving measures, but the driver died.

Deputies said lack of seatbelt use and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.

On Friday night, Wayland, Yankee Springs and Leighton firefighters were summoned to a site in Leighton Township on a reporty of a multi-motorcycle accident in Leighton. Yankee Springs Fire was on standby to assist if needed.
