Martus and CarterWayland High School had its annual honors ceremony at the Fine Arts Center Tuesday near the conclusion of the academic year.

Winning three of the most prestigious awards were Olivia Myers, Ali Martus and Perry Carter.

Myers was the recipient of the Citizenship Award, which probably was no surprise since she won the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Award earlier this year.

Martus and Carter were winners of the Multer Award and Japinga Award, respectivelMyers and Cutlery, for outstanding female and male athletes. Harry Multer was a social studies teacher and coach at Wayland who died in 1972. Louis Japinga was a longtime coach and educator who died in 1962.

Martus qualified for the Division 2 state golf championships four times, finishing 10th as a junior and fifth as a senior. She also was a three-year starter on the girls’ varsity basketball squad.

Carter was state qualifier in cross-country and swimming and a solid member of the track team. He helped break some of the longest-standing school swim records.
